This accredited activity has been designed for pharmacists, including managed care and psychiatric pharmacists.

Goal

The goal of this activity is to improve pharmacists' knowledge and competence about postpartum depression (PPD), including epidemiology, pathophysiology, and current and novel treatments for PPD. Pharmacists play a vital role on a multidisciplinary team in integrating new therapy options for PPD and developing appropriate management strategies to improve patient’s quality of life.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the activities, the learner will be able to:

  • Describe the pathophysiology of postpartum depression (PPD) and the consequences of suboptimal treatment
  • Analyze clinical trial data evaluating the efficacy and safety of novel GABA-targeting neuroactive steroids for PPD
  • Develop strategies for optimal treatment selection and managing and counseling patients with PPD
