Taking a New Look at Cancer-Associated Venous Thromboembolism: How Is Emerging Evidence Influencing Guidelines & Practice?

Activity Description and Educational Objectives

In this activity, an expert in venous thromboembolism (VTE) reviews the latest clinical science and guidelines pertaining to cancer-associated VTE prophylaxis and treatment. This educational activity also focuses on strategies to help learners prepare for the practical integration of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in cancer-associated VTE and illustrates how this development can lead to clinical improvements in the prevention and management of VTE in the cancer setting.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Use established clinical tools to assess the risk for VTE in patients preparing to receive anticancer therapy
  • Summarize current evidence and guidelines on VTE treatment and prophylaxis, including the use of direct oral anticoagulation in patients with cancer
  • Apply updated evidence on the use of DOACs as initial VTE therapy and/or thromboprophylaxis in the cancer setting

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of hematologists, oncologists, cardiologists, internists, advanced practice clinicians (NPs/PAs), pharmacists, and other clinicians involved in the care of patients with or at risk for cancer-associated VTE.

Requirements for Successful Completion

In order to receive credit, participants must view the activity and complete the post-test and evaluation form. A score of 70% or higher is needed to obtain CME/MOC/CNE/CPE credit. There are no pre-requisites and there is no fee to participate in this activity or to receive CME/MOC/CNE/CPE credit. Statements of Credit are awarded upon successful completion of the post-test and evaluation form.
