TARGET AUDIENCE

This accredited activity is targeted to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

GOAL

To provide information to pharmacists concerning the different types of headaches and offer guidelines for recommending nonprescription internal analgesics.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

After completing this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize various types of headaches based on the quality of their pain, ancillary symptoms, and other information provided;*
  2. Differentiate self-treatable headache from headache that must be referred;*
  3. For specific nonprescription internal analgesic products and/or ingredients, recognize appropriate ages for use, time periods for self-administration, precautions, and warnings;* and
  4. Provide appropriate counseling strategies for various nonprescription internal analgesic products and/or ingredients.
